Although I do not have any previous family connections to the industry, I have had a lifelong interest in travelling funfairs and have been involved in the business one way or another for the last 30 years. My involvement has included writing for the “World’s Fair” newspaper, repairing and installing electrical and lighting systems, and moving, setting up and operating equipment for various established showmen.
My main enthusiasm is for funfairs of the 1960s and 1970s, and I have gradually been buying equipment with a view to renovating and operating it in the style of that era. I plan to spend a significant amount of time over the next few years establishing a portfolio of equipment and will hopefully one day be able to go on tour or find a suitable static site for operating it.
To this end, I set up Retro Funfairs Ltd and this website is designed to provide an insight into the equipment the company owns, its history and any renovation work which is being carried out.
